Paddle for Pink, 2018

2026 is our 17th year…

The Machestic Dragons would like to share how your team participation enables us to support our mission and free cancer program outreach to so many! The Machestic Dragons are a 501 c (3) non-profit breast cancer organization and our mission is:

To raise awareness of breast cancer and the benefits of dragon boat paddling.
To show and mentor others who are weakened by the struggle with breast cancer
that there is life after this disease.
To encourage and empower ourselves and others to face their dragons with an indomitable spirit.
To look beyond today, to a future filled with hope and promise.

In supporting our mission and non-profit status, Paddle for Pink is held as a fundraiser and to increase breast cancer awareness.  Proceeds are donated to local programs that provide free services to breast cancer patients/survivors…

Since the inception of Paddle for Pink in 2007, the Machestic Dragons have been able to donate over $150,000 to local breast cancer organizations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. None of this would be possible without the cooperation of all of you who participate in our event. Thank you all for your unceasing support so we can continue to assist those organizations who help breast cancer survivors.

To promote good sportsmanship and fairness, please follow these racing division/class guidelines when forming and registering your teams:
Community/Corporate Teams– this division is reserved for novice crews with little or no experience of racing. Entry examples are crews representing corporate (commercial/ business), community organizations (i.e. Fire, Police, EMS, schools, fitness centers, etc.) and Friends/Family groups.  Community teams are not members of dragon boat organizations or clubs, typically only race one festival a year, but not more than three festivals.  At the sole discretion of the organizing committee, teams who are determined to be not true community teams will be moved to the Sport Team division.
Club/Sport Teams-this division is for crews experienced in racing, paddlers are generally members of dragon boat organizations or clubs, have access to boats and equipment (owned or rented) for practices during the paddling season and has more practice experience than the one practice the festival host provides. Teams who are, in part or in whole, spawned from other paddle sport discipline clubs, such as outrigger clubs, must also enter into the Club/Sport Team division.
Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) is a separate division, not class. Paddlers must be survivors and may be inclusive of female and male crew members. Drummer and steer may be non-BCS. A breast cancer survivor has been defined by the International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission as “a person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.”

Open Class

** 2000m Race Information: BCS and Club Teams have the option to compete in the 2000m race for an additional $200 to be paid at time of registration. This option is available to all club women, club mixed and BCS teams. The race is limited to the top 8 teams based upon their overall cumulative fastest time in both the 200m and 500m races. If you haven’t raced this distance, it is common for some team members to be intimidated. But once they’ve experienced this thrilling race, most agree that it is the most exciting race they have ever been in.  The race is unique in that it takes place on a 2-lap loop course with 400m straightaways coupled with 4 x 100m diameter turns and incorporates a staggered start. It is, essentially, a pursuit race. The slowest seeded team starts first, followed ~10 seconds later by the next slowest seeded team, and so on.  As the race progresses, the higher seeded teams tend to close the gap and what follows are     some very interesting passing dynamics in the turns and straightaways. The $200 fee to participate in the 2k race will cover the additional award medals we will purchase and to raise a bit more for the charities we support.
